Rules / Config

  1. 3-5-8 (Sergeant Major) is a trick-taking card game for exactly 3 players using a standard 52-card deck. Each player has a different trick target: the dealer must win 3, the player to dealer's left must win 5, and the player to dealer's right must win 8.
  2. The dealer chooses a trump suit after looking at their hand. The player with the 8-trick target leads the first trick. Players must follow suit if possible; otherwise they may play any card including trumps.
  3. After all 16 tricks are played, players who exceeded their target keep the extra tricks as "up" cards. Players who fell short are "down" and must exchange their best cards with the "up" players in the next round.
